52 Week Project for 2009
Picture for the week of 3/22 - 3/28.
On Saturday 3/28/09 the City of Suwanee celebrated the grand opening of their new City Hall. Here is the Mayor (Dave Williams) getting some help with the cutting of the ribbon declaring the new City Hall open for business. The event was moved indoors due to the severe storms that were happening outside.

On Sunday 3/29/09 the City of Suwanee celebrated the grand opening of their new City Hall with an aerial art photo at the Suwanee Town Center. The residents of Suwanee showed up and braved the low 50 degree temperatures coupled with 20-30 MPH wind to form an encircled "S" (signifying Suwanee) while a Helicopter flew in and took the "official" shot from high above. I was up in the tower on top of the new City Hall shooting this through a window just before the helicopter arrived.

Every spring at our office we get a flock of Cedar Waxwing birds that come in and feed off of the berries in the trees next to our office. This is one of about 80 that seem to fly around for a couple of weeks. It's fun to watch them.

This was the Varsity Boys Soccer game between North Gwinnett HS and Peachtree Ridge HS. This header was caught during the first half of that game by #21 from North Gwinnett. Peachtree Ridge ended up winning the game 2-1.

My wife and I went up to take care of our 2 nephews in Swansboro, NC (Cole who is 4.5 and Nolan who is 9 months) this past weekend while my sister and brother in law attended a wedding in Charleston, SC. This is one of the shots of Nolan I took on Sunday 4/26 while we were hanging out in the house one morning. He's got the biggest bluest eyes, and I did my best to capture them.

70mm; 1/160s; f/2.8; ISO 280Picture for the week of 5/3 - 5/9.
The Green Heron's that nest in Johns Creek, GA are back and I am lucky to have found one. I believe this is the Male (as the female was sitting on the nest) looking for some food late in the afternoon.

On my way into work on Monday morning (5/11) I saw this Red Tailed Hawk sitting on the light pole trying to dry off after the rain the night before. This mockingbird kept flying around harrassing the Hawk, even though the Hawk seemed unfazed by the mockingbird.

Peachtree Dekalb Airport here in Atlanta (small private airport) held a Good Neighbor Day air show on Saturday 5/30. I attended and was able to get a few captures of the smaller prop planes (that's all that was there) flying around doing some maneuvers. This was my favorite shot of the day though of Team Aeroshell dropping in from the sky at the end of the runway flying back to the spectators. I just liked the way the smoke behind them looked and how blue the sky was.

300mm; 1/500s; f/13; ISO 200Picture for the week of 6/21 - 6/27.
This is Olivia who is my mother's friends dog. She wanted a few shots of her out in the yard, so I took some for her. This was my favorite as she looks very happy here and I love the piece of bark flying off the stick she's chewing on.

300mm; 1/2000s; f/4.0; ISO 200Picture for the week #2 of 7/19 - 7/25.
You know it's hot outside in the summer when even the Green Heron's are hanging their tongues out in the middle of the day. This was taken at the pond in Johns Creek, GA in Technology Park.

This is profile shot of Sgt. Jacobs of the Suwanee Police Department. I went on a ride along with him on Friday 7/31/09 to take some shots of the Police force in action. I liked this shot the best as it shows his car in the background.

Cole Armstrong of the Charlotte Knights throws his shin guards in the direction of the home plate umpire after being ejected from the game for complaining about the strike zone. After getting ejected, Armstrong continued to give the home plate umpire and earful with demonstrations before finally removing all of his catching gear and flinging it at the umpire before walking off the field in disgust.

I was outside trying to get a shot of the full moon when this toadjumped in front of me and scared me half to death. So I manual focused on him (it was too dark to auto-focus) and took his picture while he was in the driveway.

Two young girls smile big for the camera during the Suwanee Day Parade on 9/19/09. Even though the weather was not very cooperating, the show went on anyway. As you can see from their hair, everyone got a bit wet.

We took a vacation up to Cape Cod for a few days and booked a whale watching trip on Saturday 10/10. I got lucky and this humpback whale breached right in front of me while I was holding the camera up at my face, so I was able to capture the breach. This was a very lucky shot as this was only the 2nd breach we saw that day and it just happened to be on my side of the boat.

This is a picture of a Groundhog that I saw while up in Dahlonega, GA on 11/1. We always see them in the same spot, but they are normally a bit more camera shy. This furry fella decided to allow me the opportunity to get his portrait though.

I had a hard time getting out to get any shots this week, so here is the submission. These are some shriveled up berries, which is all that is left on this tree as all of it's leaves have gone.

My wife bought me the 2.0x TC for my birthday on the 15th, so I took it out the following week to give it a try. I shot this Mockingbird with it and as you can see, I am happy with how it works with my 300mm.

We decided to take our company to the Georgia Aquarium on the Friday after Thanksgiving. This is one of the Jellyfish there. It is probably my favorite shot of the day, so it is now my shot of the week.

I rented the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S VR I and the new VR II lenses this week to do a comparison of them as well as compare them to my Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S lens. Here is a shot from the new VR II lens of a baseball.

My wife wanted to hang some of our photography in our house, so she bought these shelves and frames and we filled them with some of our shots and hung the shelves over our fireplace in our living room. Here are what the photos are of:

Middle Shelf from L to R: Venice, Italy; Cedar Waxwing; Eiffel Tower
Bottom Shelf from L to R: Gay Head Lighthouse; Manhattan Skyline at night; Snow Covered Railroad tracks in Suwanee, GA

This is my wife's, cousin's son Brady. He came to visit us while we were down in Sarasota, FL to celebrate his first birthday with us. I caught him peeking over his shoulder at me while he was sitting on the floor.
